The great Invicta bake off was held on Saturday with contestants David, Sallie, Carley, Tracey, Trina, Brandon, Steve and Madge (to name a few). Speaking to most of them beforehand they were all a bit nervous, they shouldn't have been because every single cake produced was beautiful. The contestants only had 45 minutes to decorate their cakes, but the creativity was outstanding. I didn't envy the judges one bit trying to decide a winer (even if though it meant they got to try every single cake!). Well done to Sandy for organising it and to everyone who took part. The winners were: Joint 3rd - Trina with her 'Life is a beach' cake and Steve with his 'Son Bou (blah, blah) beach cake'. Second place went to Carley with her very pretty 'Chalet' cake. Finally the well deserved winner was Madge with her 'Strawberry T Cake'. I tasted the winning cake and although all of the others were delicious her cake was outstanding. The sponge was light and moist, buttercream perfect and the strawberries sweet and juicy and the combination perfection!
The Ping-pong table was well used Saturday evening with some very fast games with some equally amazing shots. Not forgetting the usual laughter and banter that playing the game creates.
Jack made everyone 'Mud Slides' (a drink we discovered in Menorca) it consists of 2 glasses of Baileys, one glass of Tia Maria and half a glass of vodka mixed together and poured over ice. Thank you Jack they were a very welcome addition to the evening. This set the evening up for a relaxed, laughter filled evening, the pool table was well used and a fire lit for those that wanted to relax by the fire. Aren't we lucky to have friends that are like family to spend evenings like this with?
Sunday was a glorious sunny day with a few people even going in the pool to cool off! There was more ping-pong, miniten and of course more cake eating too.
Many of you know that for years now Richard and Tony have had a bet that their football team will be on top. It usually happens that Tony has to cough up and give Richard £10 each year. That was until this year! Tottenham Hotspur is at last above Arsenal and it was Richard's (continuing his losing streak) turn to put his hand in his pocket and hand over the £10.
More tickets were bought for the end of year party, if you haven't got your ticket yet and you wish to come along please see either Steve or Nicky. The party promises to be fantastic, with sounds from the 60's from The Rebounds (with a few more up-to-date numbers thrown in). We are hoping to hold a 'heads or tails' competition, a raffle and maybe more when the band take a break half way. Also there are more t-shirt photographs that have been added to the t-shirt page on the members only section so pop over and have a look. We will be printing up all entrants and everyone will get a chance to vote for their favourite over the August Bank Holiday. The winner will be announced at the end of year party. Good Luck everyone!
