Our lovely new shower installed by Clyde and Bonnie that had its grand opening last week was a very welcome addition to our club as the weekend proved to be very busy.
Saturday evening saw another great evening by our house band Safety First. Steve and Karl played a great set and managed to exhaust us all by playing one great song after another. Just when you thought you really needed to sit down and catch your breath they played another song that you just couldn't keep still to. It was lovely to see Oakwood members joining in and having fun with us all. Thank you Steve and Karl, we know how hard to work to entertain us and we love what you do so please don't ever stop doing it (just put in another small break so we can recover a little next time please).
Our annual speed raffle was held after tea time in The Pavilion Sunday. Thank you everyone who contributed prizes and to Sally for organising it.
Also Brandon and Norma were delighted to receive a gift of a new name sign for their new chalet made by Peter, (see photograph at the end of this blog).
Unfortunately the rain on Sunday afternoon called a halt to the miniten tournament but it was to be continued on the bank holiday Monday morning.
Sunday evening it was the hilarious Guys & Dolls evening where the guys dressed up as dolls and the dolls dressed up as guys. The outfits were hysterically funny and I think that we all had great fun deciding on our outfits and getting ready. Some of the guys were a little shy to reveal their outfits at first but when they did there was no stopping them from being in 'character'. Tracey was funny because every time I looked at her she was in 'character' not letting the 'guy' image slip for a second. It was fantastic to see one of the guys from Oakwood joining in and dressing up as a 'Doll' and have to say he looked very fetching too. All of the outfits were so good that we couldnt decide on a winner for the fancy dress competition so all of the guys and all of the dolls were joint winners. Everyone was up dancing, even those that don't usually get up to dance. The music was inspired with songs like 'Man I feel like a Woman' etc. It was such a fun evening that we might even have a 'Rocky Horror Picture Show night next year so those guys that were showing their 'perfect pins' can do it again.
Monday morning the miniten tournament was continued so the boules tournament was postponed until later in September (keep an eye on the events calender in the members only section for updates). This tournament always proves popular with all Invicta members with Oakwood members participating too. Everyone played well and the eventual finalists were Bianca and an Oakwood member versus Ricky and June with Ricky and June taking this year's miniten trophy as winners. Well done everyone who took part.
All in all it was a 'full on, action packed' Bank Holiday Weekend and special thanks has to go to Steve for organising it and putting on so much entertainment for us all to enjoy. Thank you also to everyone that helped and everyone who took part, without you these events would not be as successful.
Who is looking forward to next year's already?
