What a great way to start 2019! We had a great turnout for what was a great evening. The American supper was plentiful and delicious as usual, thank you everyone.
It was great to catch up with everyone by the warmth of the open fire in the Pavillion. I love the way the friendships just pick up where they left off after not seeing each other for a few months.
Maxine came along and kindly offered to sing for us for the evening and we are so very glad she did. Everyone was up dancing from the first song right up until the last. The way she bounced off the audience and became very much part of the club very quickly was amazing, also joining in with some of our infamous Invicta dances. A born entertainer and a lovely person too, we very much hope that she will come to entertain us again.
Maxine asked a couple of our members to get up and sing with her, Brandon did a couple of numbers starting with Nellie the Elephant in the way only Brandon can with the girls becoming Nellie and dancing 'train' style. It was funny to see the return of this dance, it was done safely with no injuries this time. Brandon and Maxine then did their version of Queens 'I want to ride my bicycle'. Well done Brandon for getting up unprepared and it was great to hear Maxine backing him. Of course Steve getting up was inevitable, Maxine and Steve did a great version of Bryan Adams 'Baby when you're gone', loved they way their voices complemented each other. It was so good they decided on doing another Bryan Adams number 'Summer of 69'. Steve really enjoyed singing with Maxine and can't wait for the next time. Brian (Maxine's Dad) got up and did a couple of numbers with her too. What a legend! We can see where Maxine gets it from, he was fantastic. We learnt a new Invicta dance to 'She wears red feathers'. Everyone sang along to his rendition of 'Tie a yellow ribbon.
Steve and I were very touched by everyone's genuine congratulations and warm wishes when our engagement was announced. We laughed when everyone started to sing 'Congatulations' and bombarded us with party poppers. Thank you everyone.
Kate was crowned 'Dancing Queen' and it was well deserved as she danced all night, I wish I had half of her energy.
To finish of the night somehow a few of us girls were talked into doing the can-can. We managed it though some of us are unable to walk today and quite possibly will be unable to for a few days yet.
I want to finish this by saying a very big Thank You to Maxine for making it a party to remember. Thank you for giving your time and talent even though you were ill. You are a star, you were fantastic and we hope to see you again.
